Embedded switch technology
We are pleased to announce the release of two new three-port EtherNet/IP Switches, the 1783-ETAP1F and the 1783-ETAP2F.
These new switches, part of the family started with the 1783-ETAP, differ slightly from each other by offering two Copper and one fibre port and two fibre and one Copper port respectively.

These two new switches will give users the ability to design and create a more flexible solution, in terms of media, for linear and ring topologies, as they will now be able to use fibre media as well as copper – allowing single-port devices to connect to a ring and/or linear topology
By offering more-flexible Ethernet topologies within its Integrated Architecture solutions, Rockwell Automation is expanding the applications that EtherNet/IP can address with distributed I/O, ControlLogix® and these new three-port EtherNet/IP communication modules. The technology allows for a high-performance ring capability (Typical recovery rate for a 50-node device-level ring is less than 3 ms), complete with diagnostics and fast recovery to help lower downtime.
Optimised for EtherNet/IP I/O and motion applications, the fast recovery rate makes failures appear transparent to most devices on the network and machines often continue operations without any system interruptions, it also supports IEEE 1588 precision time protocol (PTP) for precise time synchronisation and Quality of Service (QoS) to help prioritize data transmission. Based on an open standard managed by ODVA, the technology is available to third-party vendors, creating even greater EtherNet/IP interoperability.
